License Requirements and documents needed

LRT, Licensed Recreational Therapist

  1. Official Transcripts with degree awarded in RT, or TR option (can be emailed from school registrar’s office to Joan@NCBRTL.org)
    • Transcripts must reflect:
    • An RT Internship course is required on an official transcript
    • Six-3hour RT/TR content Courses (general recreation are not considered RT content courses. Title must reflect RT or course description and/or course syllabi (at the time the course was taken) will be considered by the Board for content.
    • one 3 hour course in Anatomy and Physiology (Separate entitled courses will be considered.)
    • one 3 hour course in Abnormal Psychology
    • one 3 hour course in Growth and Development across life span. (Board will consider separate courses Birth to death content)
  2. Intern Clinical Performance Appraisal and Summary Reference Form (CPASRF) (signed by agency intern supervisor). A score of “2” Meets Expectations or higher on individual performance ratings must be achieved.  In -state internships must be supervised by a LRT, Out of state internships must be supervised by a “CTRS”
  3. Color head and shoulders photo, (No hats, costumes, pets or other people please.
  4. Proof of Exam Passage (either a copy of successful passage notification or copy of NCTRC exam passage) LRT applicants only. Copy of Emails from NCTRC or screen shots of NCTRC verification not accepted)
  5. Application fee ($100)

LRTA, Licensed Recreational Therapy Assistant

  1. Two Year degree awarded in RT/TR
    • Transcripts must reflect:
    • An RT Internship course is required on an official transcript
    • Three-3hour RT/TR content Courses (general recreation are not considered RT content courses. Title must reflect RT or course description and/or course syllabi (at the time the course was taken) will be considered by the Board for content.
    • one 4 hour course in Anatomy and Physiology (Separate entitled courses will be considered.)
    • one 3 hour course in Abnormal Psychology
    • one 3 hour course in Growth and Development across life span. (Board will consider separate courses Birth to death content)
    • ten RT/TR lab courses
